Free QR Code Generators for Teachers and Students

The purpose of this post is to share with you a collection of some of the best free QR Code generators for teachers and students. By definition, QR Codes are readable barcodes that store various types of data (e.g., the URL of a website, a YouTube video, address, contact information, business card, email, plain text, among others).  Since its introduction, QR Code technology has  gained a strong foothold in the field of education as more and more teachers and students are using it to revamp old ways of learning and teaching and to explore new learning opportunities that were not available before.  In a previous post I shared here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, I talked about some of the ways QR Code technology is being used in education including:  * Create interactive and engaging content * Share resources with students * Provide help with homework * Communicate with parents and the school community * Integrate QR Codes in reading activities in and outside class * Gather students feedback, and many more.  Check out 10 Interesting Ways QR Codes Are Being used in Class to learn more. For those of you using Chrome browser, you can easily use the browser's integrated QR Code generator to create QR Codes for web pages. You simply open the page you want to share in Chrome, and at the top of the address bar select QR Code then download the QR Code generated or copy its URL to share with others.  Below are some of the best free QR Code generators for teachers and students. These tools are simple and free. They also provide premium versions with more advanced features such as : pre-designed templates, adding logo images to QR Codes, creating dynamic QR Codes, analytics reporting, and many more.  For free scanners, check out my list of QR Code Scanners for Teachers. 1. QRCode Generator QRCode Generator allows you to generate two types of QR Codes:  a static and a dynamic QR Code. To create dynamic QR Codes you need to be signed in. Here is how to create QR Codes using QRCode Generator: open QRCode Generator's main page and click on Generate Static QR Code. You have the option to generate QR Codes from several media files including: the URL of a web page, SMS, Phone, Contact, and Free Text.  You can choose the size of your QR Code and once your code is ready you can then save it in various formats including, SVG, and EPS. To generate a dynamic QR Code, click on 'Convert to Dynamic'. Alternatively, you can use the site's QR Code scanner to generate QR Codes using the camera of your device. 2. Goqr Goqr is another good QR Code generator for teachers. It allows you to generate free QR Codes from different medial files including text, URL, SMS, vCard, contact information, email and many more. You can either generate black and white or coloured QR Codes. To create a QR Code, "just enter your text, your URL, a SMS or vCard contact information. The QR code will be generated automatically as you type. Just click on the “Download” button to get the created QR code image then (the image is available as EPS or SVG vector graphic, as well as high-resolution PNG, GIF or JPEG raster graphics format).  You can also embed the QR code directly on your own website and use it, just have a look at the code offered by the “Embed” button. Of course, you can place and use the QR graphic on leaflets, posters, business cards or other products without any costs / for free (including commercial use)." 3. QRCode Monkey QR Code Monkey is a free QR Code generator that allows you to create various types of QR-Codes for data such as text, sms, email, vcard, mecard, social media websites, URLs, and more. QR Code Monkey also lets you add your personal logos to the QR Codes you create. You can also customize the colour of your codes the way you want. Once your QR Code is ready you can download it in PNG, SVG, PDF, or EPS format.  Another cool feature offered by QRCode Monkey is the template library where you can browse through and choose the QR Code template that you like. QR Stuff QR Stuff is both a free QR Code generator and a QR Scanner.
